<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
We were lucky enough that a friend found this beautiful poppy field on her way to work. Its been created to commemorate the first world war. As soon as I saw her photos on Facebook, I just knew that I had to take the boys.<br />

<br />
So last weekend we packed a picnic, picked Daddy up from work and made our way there. Its right by the road and when you get close you can see it in the distance a magnificent sea of red. And its just as breathtaking up close.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We ate our picnic lunch at the side of the field while enjoying the sight if the flowers bobbing their heads in the wind. After lunch the boys enjoyed listening to Daddy read a story, <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1406312460/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=1406312460&linkCode=as2&tag=lebaba-21" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Penguin by Polly Dunbar</a>, a current favourite.<br />

<br />
<br />
We talked about how they grow and make seeds. We even picked a few seed heads to dry out. So we can grow them in our garden next year as a memory.</div>

I'm not sure what happened really just insanely busy with real life LOL! One of the main things taking up my time was Joseph's (5 1/2) School carnival float. A fellow mum & I spent many hours making the giant orange rocket for our Wallace & Gromit float. Most of our time was spent making the frame from cardboard & corrugated plastic. I then sewed the 'tent' at home, which was hard going due to the size & weight of the fabric! It took me nearly an hour just to iron the thing! The Gromit was made by a very clever couple in their garage, its great to have our own school Gromit.<br />

<br />
I also had our costumes to source & make. Joseph was dressed a Wallace (painting the rocket), Daniel (4) was Shaun The Sheep & I was Paella the Bake-O-Lite lady. We had lots of fun on carnival day & were blessed with good weather, we are looking forward to doing it all over again next year!<br />

At half term we had a lovely weekend away at Butlins. I think the boys enjoyed getting to see the Skyline Gang again most of all & also having a go on their new helter-skelter. We've also had the go ahead on our loft conversion from the planning people so the last week, has seen our back garden & much of the house taken over by builders! Goodness knows how many cups of tea I have made, that is until they all switched to squash as it was just too hot working upon our roof all day! <br />

I will write more posts on the loft conversion as it progresses & as we get to decorate it as our bedroom. Once its all done our old bedroom will be coming the family room, somewhere for all the toys & a sofa bed for when Nanny stays. <div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Armed with my <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/bank-holiday-slimming-world-menu-plan.html" target="_blank">Bank Holiday Slimming World Menu Plan</a>, I headed off to the big Morrisons at Cribs Causeway. I could have gone to my more local one but as its a little on the small side I decided to treat myself & go a bit further so I could take a look at their home range etc.. That ended up backfiring on me, as I was so busy choosing what food to buy I ran out of time to have a good look at the extras!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On arriving at the store The first thing I noticed was lots of <a href="http://your.morrisons.com/pricecuts/?gclid=CLq_o87Dlb4CFccSwwodUFsA9A" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">'I'm Cheaper' </a>banners & signs letting me know how much they had reduced over 1000, products by. Many of these are products that i would buy on a weekly basis & it brings Morrisons pricing more in-line with the budget supermarkets, whilst still offering the wide range & great service. I was impressed with their 3 for £1.50 veg & 3 for £10 meat deals. I did however find a couple of products I didn't buy as I know I can get them cheaper elsewhere; these were Pepsi Max & own brand fruit & fibre.</div>

On Saturday he boys had great fun decorating their own mini pizzas (50p each), they used veg & ham to make a face, adding some extra cheese on top. I made one for Daddy (smart price cheese & tom £1), and my own using a Warburtons Pitta (8 syns for both halfs + HEA of cheese on top). They were delicious!</div>

On Sunday I made:<br />
<br />
<i>Melt In The Middle Meatballs - Slimming World Friendly</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>Ingrediants:</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>400g Extra Lean Minced Beef (3 for £10)</i><br />
<i>1 Medium Onion</i><br />
<i>2 Garlic Cloves</i><br />
<i>1 tbsp Dried Italian Herbs</i><br />
<i>1 Large Egg White</i><br />
<i>65g Of Reduced Fat Mozzarella (1/2 a ball) cut in to cubes</i><br />
<i>200ml Passata</i><br />
<i>400g Chopped Tomatoes</i><br />
<i>3 tbsp Tomato Puree </i><br />
<i>1 tbsp Sweetener (Granulated)</i><br />
<i>1 Pepper</i><br />
<i>100g Mushrooms</i><br />
<i>2 Beef OXO cubes</i><br />
<i>1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce</i><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<i><br />
</i> <i>Directions:</i><br />
<br />
<i>Blend or finely chop 1/2 of onion & 1 garlic clove. Add to a bowl with mince, 1 tsp herbs, & beaten egg white. Mix well, I find using my fingers works best & often use latex gloves when doing so. Form in to approximately 12-14 balls each one around a piece of mozzarella. They can be chilled at this stage if you would like to finish cooking them later. Spray a frying pan with frylight & seal 5-6 meatballs at a time on all sides.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>For the sauce, chop the onion & garlic. Fry in a pan using frylight, once softened add, sliced mushrooms & pepper for another 2-3 mins. Add remaining ingredients, bring to the boil, & turn down to medium putting the meatballs on top of the sauce. Cook for around 10 minutes, then turn over & cook for a further 10 mins.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>Serve with spaghetti or pasta.</i><br />
<br />
<i>This made enough for all 4 of us and cost £7.02p for the meal which works out at £1.75 each, bargain!Its great to prove that eating healthy/dieting doesn't have to cost the earth.</i><br />

<br />
Even though I'm at target with Slimming World I'm currently trying to loose the 6lb I put on over Easter! I find sticking to plan harder at the weekends, when everyone is home, so a Bank Holiday weekend is even worse. <br />
I'm so excited to be chosen as a #MorrisonsMum this weekend. So while planning what I would buy, it occurred to me that the best way to stay on plan would be to make a full meal plan. I've planned dinners before (not as often as I should) but not every meal. So here is what I have come up with for the weekend, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for 3 days on Slimming Worlds extra easy plan.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<h3>
Saturday</h3>
</div>
<div dir="ltr">
B: Cooked breakfast, bacon (fat removed), WW sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, egg, beans, 1 piece toast (1 syn & 1/2 HEB)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
L: Chicken Salad</div>
<div dir="ltr">
D: Pizza- squarish wrap pizza for me, cheese & tomato for the boys & Daddy. Add extra toppings. (8 syns & HEA)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
S: Alpen Light Bar (1/2 HEB) High Lights Hot Chocolate (2 syns) Muller Light & fruit.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<h3>
Sunday</h3>
</div>
<div dir="ltr">
B: Wholemeal toast with Marmite (HEB & 2 syns)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
L: Bachelors pasta & sauce with extra veg.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
D: Melt in the middle meatballs & spaghetti (HEA) </div>
<div dir="ltr">
S: 10 x Malteasers (5 syns) Alpen Light Bar (3 syns) Muller Light & fruit.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<h3>
Monday</h3>
</div>
<div dir="ltr">
B: Omlette - Pepper, tomato, onion & cheese (HEA)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
L: Ham salad sandwich, with ex-light mayo (HEB & 1/2 syn)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
D: Roast - Potatos, veg, 1 x yorkshire (frozen) & gravy. (2 syns)</div>
<div dir="ltr">
P: Slimming World friendly cheesecake (4 syns at a guess) </div>
<div dir="ltr">
S: High Lights Hot Chocolate (2 syns) & fruit.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
That should leave me with a few extra syns if I need them! I will of course be buying some extras for the boys and Daddy. Check back after the weekend to find out how I got on as a #MorrisonsMum, and whether I stuck to plan....</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I was younger, I had several camping holidays/weekends away with my mum down on the Jurassic coast in Dorset. We spent most days on the beach searching for fossils & I have so many happy memories. So mum & I wanted to take the boys, now they are a little bit older, and can walk a bit further on their own. I cant believe Daniel is almost 4, where has that time gone??</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not brave enough to camp with the boys yet, maybe for a night when daddy is with us... So we opted to stay in a static caravan, with all the things we would need to make things easier. There are several holiday parks in the area, but we decided to opt for West Bay. As a child we stayed in either the Lyme or Charmouth areas, but decided on West Bay after seeing it on the popular Broadchurch drama.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The holiday park there is run by <a href="http://www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk/dorset-holidays/west-bay/west-bay-holiday-park.htm" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Parkdean</a>, however we booked ours through <a href="http://www.westbay-caravan-hire.co.uk/" target="_blank">West Bay Caravan Hire</a> who hire out several privately owned caravans. Booking through them worked out cheaper & even more so as we didn't have to purchase entertainment passes. They offered a great service answering my questions very promptly, & our deposit was returned within the week. Its great to know exactly which caravan you are booking & see pictures of that exact van, we could also enter form 2pm which is earlier than any other holiday I've been on.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The famous east cliff at West Bay in the background</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In the end we didn't end up spending that much time in West Bay! We went exploring on the first day and the working harbour is picture perfect. To the west there are a couple of pebbly coves however we couldn't walk along any further presumably due to cliff falls. The beach to the east has lots of fine shingle with sand at the waters edge.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We spent our 1st full day at Charmouth, we headed down the east beach (stonebarrow) as this was always the beast for finding fossils in the past. Go on a falling tide as that way you are among the first to see what fossils have uncovered. It is also important to know the tides as the beach is often cut off at high tide. Neither mum or I ever had any success splitting rocks with a hammer & chisel, as even when we found fossils they would be broken or the flattened variety's. Its worth noting that hammering at the cliffs is not permitted & is also dangerous. The best fossils are found lying on the beach.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Along this beach amongst the sand (the black sand is a good place to look) shiny fools gold (pyrite) ammonites can be found. Trace ammonites can also be spotted on the pebbles. We were lucky enough to find one near perfect ammonite & one tiny one that was a little squashed. We also found several belemnite fragments. Other fossils can be found on this beach but these two are the most popular. When I was a child I was lucky enough to find a fossil sharks tooth & my mum found an Ichthyosaur vertebrae. Like these I often find the best fossils are the ones you find when your not really looking!</div>

After our day on the beach, we took time to visit the <a href="http://www.charmouth.org/chcc/" target="_blank">Charmouth Heritage Centre</a>. Its a fantastic free visitor centre with lots of fossils & information. The boys really enjoyed brushing sand away to find fossils & the 2 fish tanks set up to show the sea life found in the rock pools. If you haven't been fossil hunting before take a visit first so you know what to look for, they also offer guided walks (for a fee). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On the second day we enjoyed the playground on the holiday park & then had an early lunch in the caravan. In the afternoon we decided to visit Seatown, just to the east of Charmouth. Its down a small country lane & has a car park (£2 a day) & a popular pub The Anchor. When we visited they were in the process of renovating the pub, but we were still able to enjoy a lovely ice cream as they are still running a small kiosk.<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We headed to the west beach & were lucky straight away finding a rock with traces of ammonites in it. We found several others as we walked further up the beach, we also found several belamite fragments when looking through the shingle. We had a lovely afternoon and found the small pebbles easy to walk on and so much cleaner than sand. Please tell me I'm not the only one who's not keen on sand?? At low tide there are some areas of fine shingle & sand.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In fact we enjoyed our afternoon on Seatown beach so much we went again the next day! Again on the west beach we walked further up the beach,carrying Daniel some of the way, before we made 'camp'. One of the things the boys love to do is make a marker so they can tell how much the tide has changed. We used a big stick & held it upright with a few stones. It's a great way of showing the boys how much the sea moves when the tide goes out. We found lots more fossils that day, Trace ammonites, ammonite fragments, belemnite fragments, crinoid fragments & fossil shells<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
After a picnic lunch Joseph & I walked further up the beach to see what we could find at low tide. Even though we found lots of pyrite we were unlucky in finding a pyrite<b> </b> ammonite at Seatown. We did however find the belemnite bed which had been exposed. It was great to show Joseph how the sea washes the rock away & the belemnites end up on the beach. Its amazing how many there are in each rock.</div>

On the last day of our holiday, after we had packed, we headed to Lyme-Regis. There are several museums to visit there, but as we only had a couple of hours we had a look in a few of the fossil shops. We enjoyed a local pasty for lunch sat on the sea front. We were talking about how unlikely it would be to find a fossil on that part of the beach with so many people there etc, and on our way back to the car park we found one on the last metre of the beach!<br />

We have been having a great Easter holidays so far, its been so nice having the nice dry weather. We have held 2 group messy play sessions, been catching up with friends and attended a Gromit model making session. The boys had great fun learning to make a Gromit, with George from Ardman animations. I was hoping that Joseph (5) would be able to make his own but he did need lots of help, so I ended up making most of both!</div>

I'm busy getting ready for another couple of group messy play sessions I'm holding this Easter holidays. One of the crafts we will be making is these cute Bunny Cups that are great on their own but even better with grass hair!<br />
<br />
Daniel (3.5) helped me make this test/example bunny, if you'd like to make one too here are the instructions.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL8tBGFz2L4dRKsPqgpWjXI5BmTUaIHOI9fYd5GYf5ZW0kz0CFpm6lOzumM8xsiSqaXE_CoIPa3CwLRpdG7udTbVBeWlVOqlmbhkDgAzrTKPk0xNpbVgdYgEcm-UNxEqagzuuAkOFvpAqc/s1600/bunnyCollage.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL8tBGFz2L4dRKsPqgpWjXI5BmTUaIHOI9fYd5GYf5ZW0kz0CFpm6lOzumM8xsiSqaXE_CoIPa3CwLRpdG7udTbVBeWlVOqlmbhkDgAzrTKPk0xNpbVgdYgEcm-UNxEqagzuuAkOFvpAqc/s1600/bunnyCollage.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
1) Cut out ears & insides. Glue insides on to ears & then tape on the inside of your cup.<br />
<br />
2) 3/4 fill cup with soil, then sprinkle on approximately a table spoon of grass seeds (could also use cress). Cover with a little more soil.<br />
<br />
3) Now decorate the rest of your cup, glue on eyes & a cotton ball tail.<br />
<br />
4) For the whiskers twist 3 pipe cleaners together, glue to cup & then add a button or pom-pom nose.<br />
<br />
5) Draw on a mouth if you'd like, using a felt pen or permanent marker.<br />
<br />
6) Water a little every 2-3 days, and you should start to see shoots after about a week. <br />
<br />
We used paper party cups from Tesco, however you could paint plain paper cup, our use a plastic cup or even a pot.<br />
<br />

While Nanny was up staying with us we decided to check out another small local beach. I really love that on a small quite beach like this Joseph(5) and Daniel (3.5) are now old enough to explore a bit on their own. We had lots of fun finding sea glass, interesting rocks and driftwood. There was still quite a bit of water draining off the land so there were a few streams under the rocks. Daniel found one that went between some larger rocks that he was using to sail some driftwood.<br />

We ended up bringing home lots of our treasure! We decided to use the
driftwood and rocks to make a small world for our dinosaur's. As it was
still nice we set it up outside on the bench. The dinosaurs (and the boys) had lots of fun out in the spring sunshine.<br />

The boys were thrilled when they found out that they had been selected to be Lego Junior product testers. When I say the boys I mean all 3 of them... Joseph (5), Daniel (3.5), & Daddy! We were sent the Police Station set (10675) to test out. It has an age range of 4-7, which is a little lower than most standard Lego sets, as its been designed to be easier to build.<br />
<br />

<br />
Both boys have a firm love of 'little' Lego as its know in our house. Joseph started to play with it when he was around 4 however with a very inquisitive 2 year old Daniel around it wasn't very often he got to play with it. I was very worried that Daniel would try & put some of the tiny pieces in his mouth, however I soon realised that Daniel had grown out of that phase that even Joseph now at 5 hasn't!!! So Daniel was allowed to join in before he was 3 (only when supervised) he couldn't really build with it but loved to play with anything Daddy & I had built & the mini figures were a hit! We also had lots of fun last year with our<a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/lego-wash.html" target="_blank"> Lego Wash</a>.<br />
<br />
I have been encouraging Joseph to build Lego himself using the instructions, as mummy gets a little tired of re-building several times a day! He is now able to build most small kits that come free with the papers, only sometimes asking for help. One of the main problems he has when he tries to build a bigger kit like our Police Helicopter is that the instructions don't always point out exactly which pieces are added at each stage, so he sometimes misses them & gets frustrated. I must admit I have had this problem too, so was really impressed that the Lego Juniors instructions gave a clear indication on each page which & how many of each part were being added. It also had extra arrows to make it clear where pieces went.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuWadMeJXN6smNm7xnU9eegM1x5nEuUqmHHUlxcxHCKlaABsbRbYfSHW1aFEzE1eJ43OAmallB41Jkqe5Ksy1uydhdJ0ZKYf8uGpEmaZ4yXFAgFb1w61JFMB6oskAh7BrO9IgNC7G7bQ9d/s1600/Lego+Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuWadMeJXN6smNm7xnU9eegM1x5nEuUqmHHUlxcxHCKlaABsbRbYfSHW1aFEzE1eJ43OAmallB41Jkqe5Ksy1uydhdJ0ZKYf8uGpEmaZ4yXFAgFb1w61JFMB6oskAh7BrO9IgNC7G7bQ9d/s1600/Lego+Collage.jpg" height="216" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The other feature they have included to make these kits easier is that the parts are separated in to 3 numbered bags. This means that their are less parts to search through for each stage of the build. I found this great as each bag can be built in different sittings or divided between children. I would have liked the instruction book divided in to 3 as well, because Daniel had to wait for Joseph to finish with it until he could start his bag. They have also made some of the parts that would be several pieces in a standard set one bigger piece, to speed up the building process.<br />
<br />
So we started out with Joseph building bag 1, which contained the mini figures, the car & motorbike. I love that these were first as if you build in stages then these can be played with on their own. We always put all our parts in to a takeaway container, so we don't loose any & we can add a lid if we need to pack it away. Joseph was able to build these on his own using the instructions. He did ask for my help clicking a couple of pieces together & also missed a page at one point... Daniel then got to work on bag 2, this was the main part of the police station. He started off well (with some help from me), however about 1/2 way through he became distracted by Joseph playing with the car & motorbike that he ended up giving it to Joseph to finish off. Joseph & Daddy then built bag 3 together after tea, this was the jail & several other accessories that finished the kit off.<br />
<br />
Lego is great for developing fine motor skills, with little hands working on picking up & clicking together small pieces. The boys also got chance to practise reading their numbers & counting out the required pieces. <br />

<br />
The boys raced downstairs this morning to play with their new Lego set, they really love the details like the money that fits in the robbers bag & the bone to feed the dog. They have managed to play with it together well because there are 2 vehicles to avoid squabbles. The are also proud that they built it them selves.<br />
<br />
Lego Juniors is great for children who love Lego but are too young to have the patience & skills to build the standard kits, whilst still being compatible with standard Lego, so isn't babyish & will grow with them. They also make Lego Junior for girls in pink packaging, with 'proper' mini-figs, instead of Lego friends ones.<br />
<br />
As the sets are smaller as well its more reasonably priced at around £25 for the kit we were sent. <br />
In order to write this review, we were sent our Lego kit free of charge, however all views & opinions are our own.<br />

<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<u>I</u> decided to swap around our sensory box the week before half term, we decided that a beach theme would be good, but as I'd just cleaned I didn't want anything as messy as our last <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/our-first-small-world-box.html" target="_blank">beach small world</a>! So we got out all of our shells. Most of our shells we have collected during various beach trips. But I bought the big 2 at a car boot sale a few weeks back for 50p! Then we used a blue ice cream tub filled with some water to make a rock pool. We decided that our Playmobil people, that came with the swimming pool that Joseph got from Santa for Christmas, would be perfect as they have their costumes on ready for paddling! <br />
<a name='more'></a>We also grabbed their Playmobil chairs and umbrella, and some sea creatures to live on the pool. Daniel (3.5) helped me set the box up and had a good play whilst Joseph (5) was at school, its amazing how involved he gets when he's not got any distractions or interruptions.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
It worked quite well, as by the time we had collected Joseph from school, Daniel had lost intrest & Joseph was then able to enjoy the box by himself. Soon after he started playing with the box Joseph decided that the whole box was the rock pool & emptied in the water. He then spent ages sorting through the different types of shells.</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<br />
During half term we visited Nanny's house and collected lots of shells on or <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/westward-ho-storm-damage-beach-exploring.html" target="_blank">trips to Westward Ho!</a> So once we got home we had lots of new shells which needed washing as they were covered in sand and clay. So one day after school I filled a sensory box with warm water and some antibacterial washing up liquid. I put a washing up bowl next to it for the clean shells. I added the shells to the box and the boys got to work cleaning them.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Daniel was also excited to be reunited with his stick that he'd used as a boat at the beach. They had so much fun washing the shells and got a bit wet! They always love water play. Now we have lots more shells for our small world play and I think we will have to use some up for a craft. A few have holes so perhaps we will do some threading and make jewelry.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Couple of weeks ago, before I was having to be 100% on plan with slimming world & possibly (at least part) of the reason I put 4lbs on, I decided it was about time I made the boys a pineapple upside down cake. I last baked this when we were at our old 1 bed house before the boys were born, at least 7 years ago. It an old recipe that I cooked in food technology class at school, so credit goes to my teacher (sorry I cant remember your name) & my mum for keeping the recipe.<br />

<a href="http://www.mummymishaps.co.uk/" title="Mummy Mishaps"><img alt="Mummy Mishaps" src="http://www.mummymishaps.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/teamhonkbakeoffbadge.png" style="border: medium none;" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wasn't really planning to blog about this one but when I heard about the <a href="http://www.mummymishaps.co.uk/2014/02/team-honk-great-bloggers-bake-off.html" target="_blank">Team Honk Great Bloggers Bake Off </a>I thought the cherries in this recipe made it the perfect 'red nose' recipe. That & I can't bake anything nice until I shift those extra pounds I gained at half term! </div>
<br />
Ingredients:<br />
<br />
4 Pineapple rings (or chunks if you open the wrong tin like I did!)<br />
2.5 Glace cherries (or more especially if your using chunks & can fit them in)<br />
2tbs Golden Syrup (or as I called it as a child gold & Syrup lol)<br />
100g Marg or butter<br />
100g Castor sugar<br />
100g Self-raising flour<br />
2 eggs<br />
<br />
Method:<br />
<br />
Pre-heat oven to 180c (fan) or gas mark 4<br />
Grease tin or dish (approx 8") I use a flat bottomed Pyrex dish that I also use for trifles.<br />
Cover base of dish with the syrup, add the pineapple & cherries (cut in half)<br />
Sieve flour in to a mixing bowl, add marg, eggs, & sugar. Beat until soft & creamy.<br />
Spread the mix over the pineapple.<br />
Bake for approx 45 minutes, until knife or cake tester comes out clean.<br />
After loosening the edge with a knife put a plate on top of your dish & flip over. <br />
Delicious served with custard, although the boys enjoyed the small piece that was left over cold the next day. An if your not a pineapple fan (like my pregnant friend isn't at the moment) I think it would be lush with just cherries... must try that some time!<br />

<div dir="ltr">
So when I saw an amazing sensory box from <a href="http://frugalfun4boys.com/2014/02/16/sensory-play-funnels-tubes-pegboard/" target="_blank">Frugal Fun For Boys</a> on my Facebook feed<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/21814379419555311/" target="_blank"> I pinned it</a> immediately. While I was pinning it the boys caught sight and wanted one of their own. A couple of hours later I decided to have a look around to see if we had enough bits to make a more basic quick DIY version.<br />

I dug out our <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Sensory%20Box" target="_blank">sensory box</a>, <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/dinosaur-week-messy-play.html" target="_blank">coloured rice</a>, and a selection of scoops etc that I keep for <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Messy%20Play" target="_blank">messy play</a>. I also had one funnel that was big enough for the rice. I needed something big and flat for the back, as I didn't have any card big enough I used a biggish box flattened out. As it wasn't rigid I then went searching in the shed for some supports & found this looped bamboo, but 2 small bamboo canes or other wood would have worked. Just be carefully of any shape edges or catching eyes on the end of canes. I attached the card to the bamboo by making holes with a screwdriver and feeding a cable tie around, top and bottom. To make some extra funnels I used a plastic cone we had and a bottle cut in half. I was worried it might be sharp, ours wasn't, but if it was I was going to put duck tape around the top. I attached the 'funnels' using more cable ties. I then sorted through our bag of tubes to find ones of the right size, we mainly used foil & cling film tubes. I had to tape a couple on, but where they fit snug enough to stay in place left them untapped so the boys could reroute them if they wished. Further down I fixed a big blue tube with more cable ties. I'm not sure what this tube is but I picked it up from the children's scrap store. Finally I attached a yogurt pot to collect some of the rice and spill over.</div>

They were over the moon that I'd made it by lunchtime for them. They played together for over 30 mins, with the only squabble when Joseph(5) put rice in Daniels(3) hair! Joseph eventually lost interest but Daniel was engrossed and played on and off for the rest of the day. Its safe to say the boys are more than happy with this sensory box. We did end up putting a washing up bowl on one side to help catch stray rice, but it still ended up all over the floor. Top tip make sure the floor is well swept before play and then any rice can be swept up after play will be clean enough to reuse.</div>

We have another group messy play planned for Easter, if this survives long enough, I might take it for the other kids to enjoy. I'd like to make a more waterproof one so we can use it outside with water in the summer.<br />

We have just come back from a 1/2 term trip to visit my Mum in North Devon. We arrived on Sunday and it was such a lovely day we had a quick lunch & headed straight out for a walk on the beach. Westward Ho! was always our favourite beach when I was a child, I remember many happy days building sand castles, body boarding & rock pooling . Both my Dad & Gran worked on a holiday camp their as well. We last visited North Devon back in August when Mum & I <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/rock-pooling-in-devon.html">took the boys rock pooling</a>. I can't believe how much difference 6 months makes to a beach. I know we have had some of the worst storms in years but neither mum or I have ever seen Westward Ho! beach like this!<br />

<br />
When we arrived we parked by the slipway & immediately noticed that the mini golf & go karting had been covered in pebbles! The storm had taken the top 2 metres off of the pebble ridge! I think it must have also taken a couple of feet of sand from the beach as well as these boards from old breakers were previously not visible just the posts at the top. The whole beach has been affected, It is normally a 2 mile beach of almost pure sand backed by the pebbleridge. The storms have dumped tons of pebbles on the beach, exposed the under bed of clay, a pre-historic submerged forest & 2 shipwrecks!<br />

The pebbleridge is of natural formation where the rocks from cliff falls at Abbortsham & Heartland are formed in to pebbles by the sea & carried by currents & 'spat' out on the beach. Although in more recent years it has been shored up by diggers & extra pebbles to protect the burrows.<br />

Sunday was such a nice day really sunny & hardly any wind I couldn't believe its February It was much nicer than many summer days I've had down there. Or perhaps its just that my expectations are lower in the winter? The boys were dressed in their waterproofs & wellies & had so much fun climbing over all the pebbles & clay ridges. They couldn't resist jumping in the pools & puddles formed by the clay & both managed to fill their wellies with water! The high tides & storms have also washed up lots of really nice shells, bigger & more variety than I can normally find on a UK beach, they will make a great addition to our small world play. We also found a few pieces of coal, one was very big & the boys instead we bring it home & its now in Nanny's garden!<br />

We had such a great walk on the Sunday that when the weather (& tides) looked good on the Tuesday we went back again. We took a picnic lunch which we ate on the pebble ridge while we waited for the tide to go out. This time we parked on Northam burrows (which is free this time of year), though much of the car park is under water & most of the concrete bridge that makes walking across the ridge easy has been covered by pebbles. As the level of the burrows car park is higher than that of the sand on the other side of the ridge the water can be seen running underneath the pebbles & is then forming pools at the bottom of the ridge & then running out to sea.<br />

<br />
After our lunch we headed out along the beach, picking up more shells & discovering lots of old wooden posts that had been uncovered. I find it very intriguing as to what they were. Lots were single posts (maybe signs) some were old breakers, others maybe old life guard platforms. The strangest was this line of posts running horizontally with the ridge not far from the 'bridge'. I was attempting to walk back the beach to find the ship wreck we had seen on Sunday (just as the tide was coming in) and to see if I could find the other wreck that I'd read about on goggle, but the boys just wanted to dig & play so mum stayed with them whilst I walked further up the beach. I found the wreck from Sunday & then closer to the slipway (but further out to sea) the bigger wreck I'd read about. The biggest wreck is thought to have been Sally of Bristol wrecked in 1769 & has been uncovered periodically & been mentioned in local press dating back to the 1850's. The smaller wreck has only been uncovered in more recent years & is thought to be late 18th century or early 17th century. more details on the wrecks & the history of Westward Ho! can be found at <a href="http://www.westwardhohistory.co.uk/the-wreck-on-beach.php">Westward Ho History.</a><br />

Whilst playing with mum the boys found this pool with a clay ledge. By the time I came back they were busy connecting other pools & floating sticks along. They ended up playing at this pool for over an hour and a half were covered in sand and again soaking wet! Though this time I'd put the cuffs of their waterproofs on the outside of their boots which stopped a little of the water getting in. The had dry feet but wet ankles & sleeves! Daniel cried nearly all the way back to the car as he didn't want to leave the pool!<br />

Did you know that Westward Ho! is the only place in the UK to have an exclamation mark & was named after the book by Charles Kingsley.<br />
<br />
If you visit with your kids please be careful as some of the 'pools' that have been uncovered look very deep but are murky so don't look much different to kids. Hopefully these will be covered over by summer when the kids are playing in the sea. <br />
<br />
We are all looking forward to going back down in the summer to see how its changed again. How have the storms affected your area?<br />

Well this constant bad weather we've been having has meant that we haven't had much chance to get outside, have fun & some fresh air. That is except for the daily school runs in the cold, wet & wind! So last Friday when it was dry after school I took the chance to take the boys to the park after school.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdB7DJH6E_BSO7FQNNFjA49coHG7cxrBThNHQmmA5M8CZfY67OPkUATotFx2_OgqsA9rBJPe27mf4-Kn0jlRZeEpSWJS0xmc2bXg9qaM3jio6NF6tyqMI7-T-wkG0xe0PLGJ8WtAaYHfWg/s1600/098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdB7DJH6E_BSO7FQNNFjA49coHG7cxrBThNHQmmA5M8CZfY67OPkUATotFx2_OgqsA9rBJPe27mf4-Kn0jlRZeEpSWJS0xmc2bXg9qaM3jio6NF6tyqMI7-T-wkG0xe0PLGJ8WtAaYHfWg/s1600/098.jpg" height="320" width="290" /></a></div>
<br />
As everywhere is pretty soggy I choose one that is mainly on hard surface & they surprised me by staying off the grassed area. Unfortunately the sun had been out all day & as soon as school was out it clouded over, but despite the cold the boys had lots of fun!<br />

We also braved the cold & wind (thank goodness it was dry) to join the Portishead leg of the #TeamHonk relay race for Sport Relief on Monday, for more details & pictures (me & the boys) take a look at Jane from <a href="http://practicallyperfectmums.co.uk/2014/portishead-goes-sport-relief/" target="_blank">Practically Perfect Mums</a> blog post.<br />

<br />
One of the great things about blogging is being able to look back at things you did in previous years. Last year we made a <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/bubble-wrap-hearts-valentines-playdough.html" target="_blank">Valentines display</a> using the boys artwork cut in to heart shapes. I didn't file these away with the other art work but kept it with my seasonal decorations so I could find them easily. I thought they would look great on the heart shaped photo holder I bought from a car boot a couple of weeks ago for just £2! I had no idea where I was going to put it, but for that price decided to find somewhere! So for now I've put it up on the kids art wall with their hearts from last year and a few old photos that had come out of frames ages ago. Daddy's not sure about it possibly because its pictures of him!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We have also been doing lots of valentines crafting in the last week..... The boys had lots of fun making some valentines cards for their 'girlfriends' this did include Nanny, Grandma & Daniels pre-school teacher, but its still a lot of cards for 2 boys so young to be giving! To decorate the cards we used some foam stamps & some heart shaped play dough cutters, with paint soaked sponges. This was the first time we had tried the sponge technique & it really helped limit the amount of paint on the stamps.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<div style="text-align: center;">
We also decided to make some Valentines trees, or Valentines Christmas Trees as Daniel (3) kept calling them. We painted some cardboard cones from our junk box, one had already been painted in the past so came out a darker shade. Apparently they needed glitter so to save on the mess we added some glitter to the red & pink paint. Later that day, once dry, the boys decorated the trees with various bits from our craft cupboard, Using PVA to stick them on.</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Well finally getting around to posting about our <a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/hallway-update.html" target="_blank">hallway update</a>, motivated me to look at the rest of the hallway. I have had several pics of the boys waiting around to be dealt with for ages ( the oldest were taken in April 2011!) I managed to frame them over a year ago but with all the amazing gallery walls on pintrest I'm really undecided on where to put them up...so they have been sat (stacked up) on a shelf ever since.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihLMP7o1JI1fd_mVGD9qA0z2OqG-zHmzoYcws9QUUCAUBTwRYqAIGamdydKV-Mu8YsdJpiekKPVoGWmcISamq3nTrYPYA8LhBvrF17AnQDqSUTP1-TI6j_OK_kfboRDyl11x4zDzKIfan7/s1600/Photos+Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihLMP7o1JI1fd_mVGD9qA0z2OqG-zHmzoYcws9QUUCAUBTwRYqAIGamdydKV-Mu8YsdJpiekKPVoGWmcISamq3nTrYPYA8LhBvrF17AnQDqSUTP1-TI6j_OK_kfboRDyl11x4zDzKIfan7/s1600/Photos+Collage.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
When sorting out the pics for the hallway update post I realised that the boys baby pictures had been up in the hall forever and that it would make since to swap them around for now until that amazing gallery wall comes together! It has made such a difference, possibly due to the black frames, 8" x 10" from the 99p shop, bargain! So I decided to swap the pictures on the other stairs as well. They had been there since before Joseph (now 5) was born. I did have to put up one more hook on that side to even it out, but its so great to have a change. The old pictures had been up sooo long we didn't even see then any more.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You can just make out pale brown spots all over the background.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
Unfortunately when I took down the old photos I discovered that 2 of Josephs baby pics had become discoloured mainly on the pale background, probably due to only being in a clip frame & I'm assuming moisture getting in! I know re-prints would be expensive & that's if the portrait company still has the images, so if anyone knows how to correct this that would be great!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We are very lucky to have quite a large entrance hall, well for an average UK house it is! However this does mean that it ends up as a dumping ground for all sorts! We bought the wardrobe about a year ago hoping that would help with the storage, it has 2 hanging rails in 1 half & 4 shelves in the other. Next to the wardrobe is our large rat cage, which we bought when we got rats under the advice to buy the biggest we could. I love my 4 ratties to bits but they are very lazy & didn't ever use the bottom half of the cage so we decided to downsize them. When Joseph (5) started school in September the daily bags & shoes got worse & it was hard to find everything to get out the door on time. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We decided to go with an <a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/series/09064/" target="_blank">IKEA Expedit bookcase</a> on its side, as it would fit the rat cage on top & storage underneath for all of their bits & pieces. In order to do this we had to clear out the corner next to the wardrobe, so it could move along, most of this was done prior to the before picture as it was stacked nearly to the ceiling with boxes!! We were left with the cat litter to home, they don't use it often but was keep them in when its dark outside so in the winter they sometimes need to use it. As we didn't have another room it could live in, we opted to put it inside the wardrobe on the shelf side, with a 'flapless' cat flap in the door for entry. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We still had half the expedit spare & we decided that these would be the boys 'cubbies'. Each boy using the top for their school bag, swim bag, gloves & hats, & in the bottom their shoes. We have been using the cubbies for a couple of months now & they are really helping to keep the boys mess at boy, as they each have a designated area. </div>

The letters are just 85p each, or just 75p each when you buy 10 or more. Postage is calculated by weight & starts at just 75p, with free delivery on all orders over £40.</div>

I was very excited when we were asked to review a children's app, as I'd just got a new android phone before Christmas & had yet to download any apps for the boys. Heroes of the city is an app aimed at children age 2-6 & is available for both <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rutaett.HeroesMovie&hl=en" target="_blank">android on the google play store</a> & <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/app/heroes-of-the-city-movie-app/id602592310" target="_blank">apple devices from the app store</a> . It's free to download with additional content available at a cost. Other than the shop section to buy the extra games & movies there are no annoying adverts for kids to click on by mistake!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Well I'm still plugging away at loosing those extra pounds I gained at Christmas! I managed to gain 4lbs over the festive period, had a really good 100% on plan week & lost 2.5lbs, then I wasn't very good last week & managed to gain another pound. So this week I need to be on the ball again, so time to share another recipe. We really do love our rice round here, its probably part of our main meal 2-3 times per week, good job its free food on the slimming world plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My husbands favourite food from the Chinese is chicken fried rice, so I often make my own version without all the fat for him, or we have egg fried rice along with another dish. So at the weekend we had a gammon joint for dinner, Daniel (3.5) fund it a little tough & didn't eat much of the meat so I was reluctant to serve it cold with slimming world chips on Monday. I decided to turn it in to gammon fried rice, but you could use whatever you have left over, we have used ham, chicken, & turkey in the past, same with the veg use what you have in.</div>
<br />
<h3>
Left Over Fried Rice - Slimming World Style</h3>
<h4>
Ingredients:</h4>
Left over meat trimmed of all visible fat diced<br />
1-3 spring onions or 1 medium onion diced<br />
1 pepper diced (or equivalent of frozen pepper)<br />
6 mushrooms sliced or 1 tin of mushrooms drained<br />
100g frozen peas defrosted or cooked & drained<br />
250g (dry weight) of cooked white rice cooked with a veg or chicken stock cube<br />
2 eggs<br />
2 tbsp dark soy sauce<br />
1 tsp sesame oil (optional adds 2 syns, but tastes more authentic)<br />
<br />
<h4>
Directions:</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8mKUKok-OTCU8fPMMyI49DkLdzhtmqeO8gyCyzGb-aSjXR7ScfZrh2iTxpz32GJJ84fDF10hHigLlzKbJzJREr4lhE_cqXgv8M4mwrA6hmVO3nrbphxGG3TivNIZ366FQQz08qw_KW8LE/s1600/IMG_20140113_164600557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8mKUKok-OTCU8fPMMyI49DkLdzhtmqeO8gyCyzGb-aSjXR7ScfZrh2iTxpz32GJJ84fDF10hHigLlzKbJzJREr4lhE_cqXgv8M4mwrA6hmVO3nrbphxGG3TivNIZ366FQQz08qw_KW8LE/s1600/IMG_20140113_164600557.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">H</span>eat the sesame oil in pan or spray with fry light. Cook onion until soft, add pepper, mushrooms, peas & diced meat & stir fry for 2-3mins. Crack the eggs in to a jug, whisk & season. I then scramble them in the microwave, as when I have done it in the same pan it sticks & burns. Add the cooked rice, soy sauce & egg (broken up small), stir fry until heated through & serve.<br />
<br />
Everyone loved this meal, especially Daniel who said it was delicious & we needed to eat it everyday! Clean bowls all round....<br />

We have only been lucky enough to holiday at a center parks village once. It was back in 2007 exactly a year before Joseph was born. We went to Longleat with our friends on bonfire night week. We had an amazing time and I remember seeing lots of children enjoying themselves and hoping we could take our kids one day. So when the tots 100 January centre parks challenge was to describe our perfect day at centre parks, I knew exactly what we would do.</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
It would be amazing if we were there on Joseph's birthday meaning that the boys could experience the fantastic fireworks display over the lake. We would start our day with a cooked breakfast in our lodge. Then take a leisurely bike ride to the swimming pool, where we could take the boys on the outside rapids river & practise their swimming in the pool.It has to be the best swimming pool I've been too & seeing the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj8fMEneLao" target="_blank">new center parks advert </a>reminded me how much fun it was.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>View of the outside raids at night (2007)</i></td></tr>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">
We would then let Joseph choose somewhere to have some lunch. After that I would take Joseph (& Daniel if he was old enough) horse riding, which I loved when we stayed. <i>time</i> a bit more bike riding and exploring, then we would all go to the pancake house (my favourite)for tea, before the fireworks! After the boys were in bed my husband & I would be able to relax in the lodge, possibly a hot tub if we were lucky!<br />
That really does sound like a perfect day, on a perfect family holiday. I really look forward to introducing the boys to centre parks.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I realised that I hadn't made the boys a small world box since our Halloween one! We have been so wrapped up in Christmas since then that the time has flown by. So I decided to put something together quickly after school for the boys to play with. As I had a new pot of white play dough to hand we decided on a snowy polar theme. I do often make play dough but Joseph (5) was given a really big set a couple of years ago & I keep finding new pots at the back of the cupboard! If I'd had chance I would have added some silver glitter to make it even more snowy like the play dough i made for our<a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/arctic-week-messy-play.html" target="_blank"> Arctic Week, Group Messy Play.</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So at the bottom of one of our sensory boxes I taped a piece of silver rip stop fabric I had, (but silver foil would also work well) to represent the frozen water. Put the snowy play dough on one side & some white decorative stones on the other side. I also have a piece of foam packaging that looks like an iceberg.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, after trying to get out for a walk during the Christmas holidays, today was the first time we managed it, due to a combination of busy days & the weather! So after school we gave the boys the option of either going to the park or taking Daddy to the beach we visited with Nanny during the summer (<a href="http://lebabybakery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/silent-sunday_23.html" target="_blank">I posted a picture here for Silent Sunday</a>).</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was very cold today, but at least it was dry & sunny, though by the time we got to the beach it was in the shade! Even so we had a lovely 1/2 hour of exploring & fresh air.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We found some shells, sea glass & collected small pebbles, will definitely be back in the summer to have a good hunt for more sea glass....</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Well I think that nearly everyone's new years resolutions I've read have involved either loosing weight or eating more healthily. I have been at my target weight with slimming world for over a year now, having lost 2.5 stone, well at least I hope I still am as I haven't weighed since before Christmas! I've found it much harder to be 'good' since i got to target & don't seam to be able to have a meal or 2 off plan, the whole week seams to go & then I end up having to have an extra good week to get back down to target again! Slimming World give me a 3lb leeway either side of my target & a weeks grace before I have to start paying class fees again & so far I haven't had to pay since I hit target in October 2012. I'm really glad slimming world encourage target members to weigh regularly as if I didn't I'm sure I'd have easily have gained a stone again!</div>

Anyway to give everyone a kick start (especially me) to a healthy new year here is one of my favourite recipes that I found on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/21814379416812049/" target="_blank">pintrest </a>& converted to UK measurements & adapted to slimming world. Both boys love it & even daddy who has 'gone off' bolognese likes it!</div>
